Monarch Money costs $14.99 a month, or $99.99 a year if you pay annually, which works out to about $8.33 a month. That annual price is the Core plan and it covers your whole household, not one seat. A second tier called Monarch Plus adds Morningstar-backed investment analysis and deeper forecasting for $199 a year, billed annually only. Both plans start with a 7-day free trial and both require a card up front.

Last updated August 12, 2026. Core pricing confirmed against monarch.com and NerdWallet's hands-on review in August 2026. Competitor figures re-checked on quicken.com and ynab.com the same day.

One caveat worth stating plainly, because most pages that quote these numbers do not. Monarch's own pricing page renders its prices in the browser rather than in the page source, so automated trackers frequently miss them and copy each other instead. That is why you will see the Plus tier listed as $199 on most independent reviews and $199.99 on some automated price trackers. Core at $99.99 a year and $14.99 a month is corroborated everywhere. We use $199 for Plus because that is what the hands-on reviews report, but confirm it at checkout before you commit to a year.

A real .qbo file QuickBooks accepts

Built for the QIF files Quicken and finance tools actually export, checked before it exports.

Reconciliation

Every total checked against your file

The converter adds up the transactions it parsed and matches that to your file total before you export, so nothing is silently dropped.

Web Connect

A genuine .qbo, not a renamed QIF

Valid OFX 1.02 with QuickBooks Web Connect headers. Online and Desktop import it as a standard bank feed.

QIF tags

Your QIF tags read for you

Date, payee, and amount are read straight from the QIF tags, so there is nothing to map and no layout to match.

Volume

A year of QIF files in one batch

Bulk upload for catch-up and cleanup work. Each file gets its own reconciliation check and its own exports.

Dates and amounts

Dates and amounts fixed for you

Mixed date formats, apostrophe years, currency symbols, and split lines in a QIF are cleaned up and summed before the .qbo is built.

Exports

Excel and CSV in the same download

One conversion, three files: the .qbo for QuickBooks, an XLSX to review, and a CSV for everything else.

How to convert your QIF to QuickBooks

Three steps. No column-mapping wizard.

1

Upload your QIF file

Drag in a .qif export from Quicken, your bank, or another finance tool. Any QIF type works.

2

Review the reconciled rows

Every transaction is parsed and checked against your file total. You see the rows before exporting.

3

Import into QuickBooks

Download the .qbo and import it as a Web Connect bank feed. Excel and CSV are in the same download.

How much does Monarch Money cost?

Monarch Money costs $99.99 a year on the Core plan, or $14.99 a month if you pay month to month. The Plus plan costs $199 a year and is only sold annually. There is no free tier and no permanent free version, so after the 7-day trial you are on a paid plan or you are out.

The gap between the two billing options is larger than it looks. Paying $14.99 every month comes to $179.88 across a year against $99.99 annually, so monthly billing costs roughly 80 percent more for exactly the same product. If you already know you want the app, annual is the only sensible choice. If you are unsure, a couple of monthly cycles is a cheap way to find out before you lock in twelve.

How much is Monarch Money per month?

Monarch Money is $14.99 per month on true monthly billing. If you pay for a year up front at $99.99, the effective monthly cost drops to about $8.33. Monarch Plus has no monthly option at all, so its $199 annual price works out to $16.58 a month whether you think of it that way or not.

How much does Monarch Money cost per year?

Core is $99.99 per year. Plus is $199 per year. Paying monthly instead of annually costs $179.88 for Core over twelve months, which is $79.89 more than the annual rate for identical features. Renewals bill at the full rate, not at any promotional first-year price you may have signed up under.

That last point catches people out. Monarch runs first-year discounts periodically, and they are usually only available if you sign up on monarch.com rather than through an app store. The discount applies to year one. Year two bills at list. Put the renewal date in your calendar rather than discovering it on a statement.

Is Monarch Money free?

No. Monarch Money has no free plan. Every account starts with a 7-day free trial that requires a credit card, and it converts to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel inside those seven days. This is a deliberate difference from the old Mint model, and it is the main reason former Mint users hesitate at signup.

Does Monarch Money have a free trial?

Yes, 7 days, on both Core and Plus, with full access to every feature. A card is required to start it. Seven days is short for a budgeting app, because you generally need at least one full pay cycle and one full billing cycle to know whether the categorization and the cash-flow forecast actually match how you live.

If you want to use the trial well, connect every account on day one rather than adding them gradually. Monarch pulls up to a couple of years of history from most institutions, so the reports become meaningful almost immediately once the connections are in place. Spending the first three days connecting things one at a time wastes half the window.

What does Monarch Plus include?

Plus adds Morningstar-powered investment analysis, deeper scenario modeling and forecasting, and priority support on top of everything in Core. It doubles the price, and for most households it is not worth it. If your portfolio already lives with a broker who gives you performance and allocation reporting, you are paying $100 a year for a second view of data you can already see.

Plus makes more sense for someone tracking several portfolios across multiple custodians, or an advisor who wants a single client-facing dashboard. Start on Core. You can move up later without losing history.

Does Monarch Money cost more for couples?

No. One Core subscription at $99.99 a year covers the household, and each partner gets their own login rather than sharing one set of credentials. Shared accounts, shared goals and a shared dashboard are included at no extra charge. This is one of the genuine reasons people pick Monarch over cheaper single-user tools.

It is also where the per-person math flips. Split between two people, Core is about $50 each per year, which undercuts most single-seat personal finance software. If only one of you will realistically log in, that advantage disappears and a cheaper tool will do the same job.

How does Monarch Money's cost compare to Quicken, Simplifi and YNAB?

Monarch is the most expensive of the four at list price, and the cheapest per person once two people use it. Quicken Simplifi is the low-cost option at $6.99 a month regular, currently discounted, and Quicken Classic Deluxe sits at the same regular rate with a desktop file you own. YNAB is close to Monarch on price but sells a different thing entirely: a zero-based budgeting method rather than a dashboard.

AppAnnual costMonthly optionTrialBest suited to
Monarch Core$99.99$14.997 daysTwo people sharing a dashboard
Monarch Plus$199None7 daysMultiple investment portfolios
YNAB$109$14.9934 daysStrict zero-based budgeting
Quicken Simplifi$83.88 regular, $47.88 at the current offerBilled annuallyNone, 30-day money backCheap, clean spending plan
Quicken Classic Deluxe$83.88Billed annuallyNone, 30-day money backA local file you keep forever

Prices above were checked on August 12, 2026. Quicken's Simplifi and Classic rates are promotional and the struck-through regular figures do not reconcile with the advertised discount percentage, so the honest comparison uses the regular rate for anything past year one. Our side-by-side of Monarch vs Simplifi goes through the feature trade-offs rather than just the sticker price.

How does Monarch Money's price compare to YNAB?

Monarch Core is $99.99 a year against YNAB at $109, so they are within ten dollars. The real difference is the trial: YNAB gives you 34 days with no credit card, Monarch gives you 7 days and takes a card. If you are undecided between them, that alone is a reason to try YNAB first, because you can evaluate it for a full month at zero risk.

The products solve different problems, which matters more than the ten-dollar gap. We break that down in detail in Monarch vs YNAB.

Has Monarch Money raised its price?

Monarch's Core rate has held at $99.99 a year and $14.99 a month through 2026. What changes regularly is the promotional first-year discount, which appears and disappears, so two people signing up in different months can pay very different amounts for year one and the same amount from year two onward.

What is the cheapest way to get Monarch Money?

Pay annually, and sign up on monarch.com rather than through an app store, since first-year promotional pricing is generally only offered on the web. Do not build a decision around a specific promo code you found in an article. Those expire quietly and the codes circulating in older posts frequently no longer work.

Is Monarch Money worth the cost?

It is worth $99.99 a year if two people will both log in and use the shared household view, or if you want every account in one place with reporting that does not need spreadsheet work. It is poor value for one person who mainly wants a budget, where YNAB or Simplifi does more for the same money or less. Our full verdict is in is Monarch Money worth it.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

Monarch is a hosted web and mobile service with no local file, so when the subscription ends you lose the working app. Export your transaction history to CSV before you cancel. This is the sharpest practical difference against Quicken Classic, where the data access guarantee means Deluxe and above keep opening, viewing, editing and exporting the file after a subscription lapses.

If keeping a file you control matters to you, that is an argument for a desktop product rather than a subscription dashboard. We cover the whole landscape in Quicken alternatives.

Does Monarch Money import Quicken data?

Not natively. Monarch has no Quicken importer of any kind. The only migration path is CSV: export your register from Quicken, then upload it to Monarch, whose importer maps columns by header keyword rather than position and needs a date, a description or merchant, and an amount, with income positive and expenses negative in a single amount column.

Multiple accounts can go in one sheet. The step-by-step is in our guide to moving Quicken to Monarch Money. If you are heading to QuickBooks instead of a personal finance app, the converter at the top of this page turns a Quicken QIF export into a balanced QBO Web Connect file that QuickBooks accepts directly.

How do I cancel Monarch Money?

Cancel in account settings on the web app, or through the app store if that is where you subscribed, since the store owns the billing relationship in that case. Cancelling stops the renewal and you keep access until the paid period ends. Export your CSV before the period runs out rather than after.
